This post is all about how to relax your mind.
Ever feel like you’re being pulled in a million directions, wondering how to relax your mind while it races over all the tasks waiting to be done but still sitting unfinished?
It is easy to feel overwhelmed and like it is impossible to relax. However, I’m here to tell you that in just 5 minutes, you can reset and feel ready to tackle tasks with a fresh mind.
These hacks are super simple to do. You can even do them while sitting down.
Why 5-Minute Mind Relaxation Works
I believe the most impactful aspect of these tips is pausing whatever you’re doing and taking a moment for yourself to step back and unplug.
A reminder is sometimes needed to stay present and be mindful of our surroundings.
Instant Peace: 5 Hacks to Relax Your Mind in 5 Minutes
- Box Breathing Technique
- You need to sit up straight and exhale most of the air from your lungs. Each step is performed for 4 seconds: slowly inhale, hold your breath, exhale through your mouth, and pause before repeating as needed.
- This calms your nervous system and slows your heart rate.
- Use the 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Exercise
- This is a sensory technique that helps bring you back to the present and be mindful of your surroundings while using your 5 senses.
- See: Name five items you see in your surroundings
- Touch: Focus on four items you feel
- Hear: Name three items you hear
- Smell: Notice two items you smell
- Taste: Focus on something you can taste
- This is a sensory technique that helps bring you back to the present and be mindful of your surroundings while using your 5 senses.
- Quick Stretch and Shake
- The most known exercise, in my opinion, is this one. We normally start to stretch when we are feeling stressed out. But sometimes it is a good reminder anyway.
- An important part of this stretch exercise is to shift your focus on the different parts of your body you are stretching.
- You can do this for 5 quick minutes while including neck stretches, shoulder rolls or shake out the tension you feel.
- Listen to a Favorite Song or Nature Sounds
- Music can help release stress so you can listen to your favorite type of music or search around to try and find other music you wouldn’t normally listen to.
- However, if you aren’t in the mood for music, another option is nature sounds or background noise. You can close your eyes for 5 minutes and let your mind take you to another place.
- Aromatherapy
- Aromatherapy can help soothe your mood automatically. My favorite way to use essential oils is with an oil diffuser. Diffusers usually have different color settings that can also create a calming ambiance.
- My personal favorite scents are lavender, orange, and peppermint. An option is to try mixing different scents, just be careful not to add many drops since a little goes a long way with essential oils.
- Also, it is important to look into pet safety when using essential oils.
- Additionally, if you are thinking of using essential oils on your skin, be sure to mix it with a carrier oil like coconut oil since it’s too strong to apply to your skin alone.
This essential oils set is perfect to create a calming ambiance at home. These specific scents are great for relaxation and aromatherapy. A little goes a long way with these.
This aromatherapy diffuser with remote control is perfect for homebodies who enjoy diffusing soothing scents at home. I own this brand without the remote but that would be very useful for sure.
This little machine is pretty convenient for those light sleepers. Quickly turn it on and continue your sleep when you start to hear a bit of noise outside.
