The House Cleaning Hacks Toolkit
1. Must-have cleaning supplies
You don’t need to have any crazy expensive cleaning tools. I am sure you have these at home already or can get these supplies without breaking the bank.
- Swiffer wet jet
- Mop pads
- Toilet scrubber
- Lysol All-Purpose Cleaner Spray
- Windex Spray
- Lysol Bleach Foaming Spray
- Lysol Toilet bowl cleaner
- White cloths (kitchen)
- Microfiber cloths (restroom)
- Rubber gloves
- White Distilled Vinegar
2. Eco-friendly options
These have been really durable and they save me money by not buying the disposable pads. They are also zero waste and can be easily washed.
I cant live without my Swiffer. Whenever I need to quickly wipe and sweep at the same time I can alway trust my Swiffer will get the job done.
Reusable Mop Pads
I love using my swiffer wet jet since I can quickly clean the floor, however, I feel bad about buying the classic one-use mop pads. So, I use reusable mop pads from amazon. They are great quality and have lasted me years now. Once I have used all my mop pads I shake all the excess trash and crumbs that get stuck to it over the trash and wear my rubber gloves to pick up the extra pieces still stuck. Then, I add a pump of soak and rub the mop pad and rinse until clean. I squeeze all the excess water out and leave them to dry over my tubing under my bathroom sink.
Everyone needs a couple of these dishcloths to quickly use when something needs to be wiped down. It can also help not create waste and also save money.
These are great to use as reusable clothes for your household. Having them different colors helps you assign them for different areas without getting confused where they have wiped already.
Regular Small White Towels and Microfiber Towels
It feels pretty wasteful to use napkins for most surfaces. For that reason, I have a set of white towels for the kitchen surfaces and microfiber cloths for the bathroom sink and glass mirror. There are only small places where I use napkins or toilet paper. In the kitchen, I use napkins to clean something that will stain my white towels, like wine or coffee. In the bathroom I use toilet paper for the toilet areas.
Time-Saving Strategies
I am naturally a person who does everything fast. I give full credit to my mom for that. So I can do a lot in just 15 minutes. My mind is already thinking of the next thing to do and in what order it makes sense to do everything. However, even if that’s not you these small hacks will help you stay ahead cleaning.

1. 15-minute daily cleaning routine
Every morning I make sure I make my bed and clear the misplaced items left overnight in the bedroom.
After washing my face and brushing my teeth, I head to the kitchen.
I clear any dirty dishes and wash them all.
After, I look around the whole kitchen and living room and clear any other misplaced items.
There won’t be many since the habit that needs to be made is to put away items as you finish using them.
At that point, I quickly wipe any dirty surfaces with Lysol All-Purpose Cleaner Spray ensuring crumbs aren’t pushed onto the floor. Since swiffering will only be done when you see the floor is getting dirty.
It helps to make your home a shoe-free zone if that is possible so the floor is just a quick wipe when it does get dirty.
Make sure that you have your family on board with taking their items as they leave from one area to another area of the house. Try to be patient when they forget, since it will take time to become a habit. However, it will be a time-saver when the habit is set.
2. Weekend deep-cleaning plan
The weekend is time to do bigger cleaning tasks that you wouldn’t usually do. I pick the one or two I see are the dirtiest and make those my only cleaning tasks that weekend.
Those can be:
- Washing the bathtub
- Cleaning the oven
- Cleaning and clearing out the fridge
- Cleaning the dishwasher
- Cleaning the washing machine.
3. Room-by-Room Hacks
1. Kitchen Cleaning Hacks
When you finish cooking, clean anything you made dirty if you have free time while cooking or right after eating. This is important since leaving it for later is when things accumulate and become overwhelming.
If you have to leave dishes in the sink, clear the food from them and leave them soaking in water.
Also, at that point, clean all surfaces you dirtied. Use Lysol All-Purpose Cleaner Spray and Lysol Bleach Foaming Spray and wipe with your kitchen towels.
Cleaning Hack: Stuck food in microwave
When using the microwave, add a lid to the food you are heating to avoid the food splashing onto the microwave walls. Just place it on top but ensure it has space for air to escape.
If you did get it dirty, get a bowl with water, squeeze a lemon inside, and boil it for 5 minutes or until the walls of the microwave sweat so the walls are now easier to wipe down.
2. Bathroom Cleaning Hacks
The daily task for the bathroom would be clearing the bathroom sink, spraying it with Lysol All-Purpose Cleaner Spray or Lysol Bleach Foaming Spray, and wiping it with your microfiber towel.
Then spraying Windex on your other microfiber towel and wiping your glass mirror. Spraying the towel avoids messing around areas you cleaned already.
For the toilet, scrub the toilet bowl cleaner solution with the toilet bowl brush and leave for the suggested 10 minutes. While that stays on, spray the rest of the toilet with Lysol All-Purpose Cleaner Spray and Lysol Bleach Foaming Spray. Get napkins or toilet paper to wipe.
The order I wipe is: top of toilet seat, bottom of toilet seat, the ceramic under toilet seat, then, I throw that away.
Now, grab a new napkin for the flushing handle, top of toilet lid, under toilet lid, then the top lid of the water reservoir, down the side of it, and the area where both parts meet.
Cleaning Hack: Shower Head Descaling
If your shower head needs to be descaled, you can get a plastic bag, add white vinegar, and wrap it around the showerhead with a rubber band for 30 minutes. Just rinse with water after being cleared.
3. Living Room and Bedrooms
My cleaning is pretty quick since my home is minimalistic. So there are little surfaces to clean and items to move around. I would suggest trying to take on that lifestyle if possible.
The bedroom and living room are easy at this point since there aren’t misplaced items. You spray Lysol All-Purpose Cleaner Spray and Lysol Bleach Foaming Spray and wipe down surfaces and electronics with microfiber cloth. After swiffer the floors and vacuum the carpet and rugs.
