Wondering about how to get into a relaxing mood? I will give you tips I use and how I create a relaxing mood in my home, as well. Sometimes we are just all go go go and we can get overwhelmed when all we need to do is take a few minutes and create a relaxing mood around us and our perspective and mood can quickly change.
Identifying Stressors
The first step is to try to identify what your stressors are and where they are coming from. If you are stressed out about things that are out of your control it is best to try to distract yourself to not think about it since you won’t be able to change anything by obsessively thinking about it. If you are stressed about something you can change and take steps to work on it. I will give you tips to create a more calming atmosphere to be able to tackle that problem with a clearer mind.
Creating a Relaxing Environment
1. Clean your home
The first tip is to clean your home. I cannot fully relax until my home is clean. If you are too tired to clean though, just decluttering might be enough. Clearing your space can also help clear your mind.
2. Turn on candle or oil diffuser
You can either light a candle or turn on an oil diffuser. My favorite oils to add are eucalyptus and lemongrass. They are fresh scents that help clear your mind and put you at ease. Most oil diffusers also have lights so you can set the mood with different colors as well.
3. Lighting
These lights have different flicker setting and dimming setting. It comes with a convenient remote as well.
This lamp has multiple setting to adjust the temperatures and brightness levels. It tilts to the sides and can toggle the top and bottom lights off.
Lighting is an essential aspect to think about. Led lights in an office or a classroom are so bright that they are perfect for those settings since people are supposed to be focused in those settings. I would suggest hanging string lights or a lamp that has dimming settings or can change the temperature color of the light.
4. Greenery
Snake plants are known to help with air quality and for being a difficult plant to kill, just be sure to not over water.
Greenery can help create a relaxing mood as well. Nature has the effect that helps you relax and some plants even help with air quality.
5. Warm bath or shower
Take a nice warm shower or bath. I’m sure you have noticed the rejuvenating feeling you get after a good rinse from your stressful day. Use your favorite shower gel or apply your hair deep conditioner and treat yourself.

6. Loungewear
Finding your favorite lounge wear after your shower to use can also help you relax. Make it either a cozy outfit or something really cute so you can look and feel your best as well
7. Curl up with a cozy blanket and drink
Grab a cozy blanket and curl up on the couch with your drink of choice. You can get a nice warm tea or coffee or the most popular drink after a stressful day: a glass of wine.
8. Play relaxing music
Play some classical music or lo-fi beats. Those are my two favorites to play when I need to relax.
9. Read a self-help book
Read a self-improvement book. I have loved books from Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh. They help your perspective change and see things not too seriously. They are a perfect reading option when you want to relax.
10. Watch a feel-good show
Watch your favorite feel-good show or movie. It’s great to distract your mind for a little while. My favorite is Seinfeld since I can watch it without needing to remember what happened in the episodes before.
11. Practice mindfulness exercises
This is a great book to help you slow down in life and take in all the beauty around us. A great book if you feel you need to relax more.
There is a great book also by Thich Nhat Hanh called The Miracle of Mindfulness. He goes over different exercises you can do to practice mindfulness and explains how it can improve your life.
12. Exercise
This jump rope is great so you can focus on jumping and not counting. The rope is heavy enough to quickly swing around.
I used to get into a funky mindset in the middle of the day. What helped me was cardio. I bought a jump rope that counts every jump and would jump until I got to 1000. I was so sore the next few days. After you get your heart beating fast your mind tends to calm down and relax.
Final thoughts
Achieving a relaxed mood after a hectic day doesn’t have to be a challenge. Consider incorporating a couple of these laid-back suggestions into your routine. My favorites are to maintain a tidy living space, indulge in an enjoyable at-home workout (bonus if it’s in a dimmed room), and wind down with a mindfulness book.
It may seem hard to relax initially, but give these ideas a try, and you’ll find yourself easing into a relaxing mood.
